Charles Eddery starts a very promising career!
Charles Eddery is the latest student from the Flexible Learning Programme to ride a winner.
Charles has come from a very famous racing dynasty of jockeys; his father Paul a group one winning jockey and his uncle Pat, 11 times champion jockey.
While a student on the FLP (Flexible Learning Programme), Charles worked very hard and in his spare time rode out and gained experience at Warren Place stables with 10 times champion trainer Henry Cecil. During school holidays Charles also showed his determination to be a jockey, by gaining further work experience with Mr. Jim Bolger and with his current employer Mr. Richard Hannon.
After completing his NVQ 2 this year in May, Charles returned to the BRS and attended an Apprentice Licence Course, and within weeks he had ridden in several races.
On 15 November 2007 Charles rode his first winner, scoring by 2 lengths at Lingfield AW on Grande Caiman in an apprentice handicap.
The Racing Post wrote, "Eddery, who is based with Hannon and was having just his ninth career ride, showed terrific patience and confidence to sit off the pace before pouncing on the home turn on the Grand Lodge colt."
Duncan Gregory, Operations Director says, "The Flexible Learning Programme which allowed Charles to combine his final two years of education with weekly 'day-release' to the British Racing School has, we hope, contributed significantly to the successful launch of his race riding career. He certainly excelled on our programme and we wish him every success in the future."
