The British Racing School has successfully helped the first group of stable employees in gaining their Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Mentor qualification by providing work place based training.

The qualification has been designed to develop systems and good practice to support employees in the workplace so that they work as effectively as possible.

Mentor Qualification

Jane Headley who has just completed the Mentor qualification said: "Having spent time working with the racing industry, I've always found it highly frustrating that racing people seem to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to employment practices. The mentor training was really beneficial in that it focused the mind and forced us to approach staff support in a more formal and structured way. It also showed the benefits of devoting a bit of time to the trickier members of staff, rather that just always working with the easy ones! I'm delighted to have completed the course and I sincerely hope that the rest of the industry grasps the concept and gives the training a chance to work."

Rory MacDonald, Chief Executive of the British Racing School, said: "If we are to make best use of the staff who work in the racing industry we must improve the way we support them in the work place. The mentor qualification is exactly that and enables us to use the best practice which is common place in other industries"
