Ebony Visit 1

10 youngsters aged between 12 and 15 made there way to the British Racing School from Brixton in central London this week.

A select group of the members from Ebony horse club experienced the Newmarket gallops, a trainers yard, a morning at the illustrious Dalham Hall Stud, the home of Darley and the Horseracing Museum. This has been a chance for them to see what it is like to work in a real racing yard during their 2 day stay at the BRS.

One of the highlights of the 2 days was the behind the scenes tour at Dalham Hall Stud, they had the privilege of meeting the stallions and some of the stars of the future. "It was really amazing to see the beautiful stallions and to know what opportunities there are for working in a stud" Said Cherri aged 14.

The group also spent a good amount of time working on the BRS yard alongside the students on the 9 week course. This was a chance for them to get some hands on experience with the horses, something they don't get to do much in London.

14 year old Mustafa said "one of my highlights was getting shown how to tack up a racehorse and getting hands on with them, it has been really exciting, the 9 week course is something I would like to do in the future"

Ebony Horse Club provides riding for all children in Coldharbour Ward, Brixton, London, aged eight to nineteen years who would otherwise have no means of accessing the sport, but specialises in children with emotional and behavioral difficulties, especially those excluded from school.

The British Racing School includes the work it does with Ebony amongst some of its most important community work, allowing horseracing as a career to be accessible to everyone.
