Calm After the Storm - Cheltenham Festival Round-Up
The long awaited 2012 Cheltenham Festival is now over and the countdown to the Flat Season can begin, but before we move on its worth mentioning those that enjoyed success at the inaugural event.
Day 1 and the first to be spotted was Advanced Apprenticeship graduate Catrin Eynon, who looks after the Cheltenham regular Cue Card; sadly Cue Card was beaten by a very exciting future prospect in the form of Sprinter Sacre. Fellow grad Hannah Ball was able to go one better when her horse Balthazar King won the Cross Country Chase under Richard Johnson for Phillip Hobbs. Hannah has worked for Mr Hobbs for about 10years since completing her Level 2 at The BRS and later her Level 3.
The final race of the day saw Hunt Ball win the Pulteney Land Investments Novice Handicap Chase under Nick Scholfield. Nick came to the BRS to do the 9week Foundation course in 2006. Coincidentally on the same course as him was Kieran Burke, the trainer of Hunt Ball!
The next grad in the winners' enclosure was Campbell Gillies aboard Brindisi Breeze when winning the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle for Lucinda Russell. Two races later and another grad was flying high, this time Harry Haynes had crossed the line first on 20-1 shot Attaglance for northern based trainer Malcolm Jefferson.
All in all it was a great week of racing, and even those that didn't bring home a winner would have still enjoyed a fantastic experience. Well done to everyone involved; jockeys, lads/lasses and trainers!
