Ryan Clark

Name: Ryan Clark
Based: Lambourn
Apprentice to: Rod Simpson

When I was 15 I approached J Osbourne during Lambourn Open Day. I explained to him that I wanted to be a jockey and he offered me a couple of weeks work experience in his yard. I ended up staying for 5 months before attending the 9 week foundation course at The British Racing School. I returned to Mr Osbourne's and over the space of a year I learnt a great deal from him and during this time he gave me some great opportunities. I decided to move to a smaller yard to improve my opportunities for Apprentice rides and am now with Rod Simpson.

Johnathan Frazer

Name: Johnathan Frazer
Based: Malton, North Yorks
Apprentice to: John Wainwright

My Dad always told me if you don't like a job don't do it. I spent a year working out what I wanted to do - I experimented with 30 different jobs in a year! I was signed up with a training scheme in Cardiff called CSV and they helped me find a job with D H Jones's racing yard. I had finally found something that I loved and decided this was the job for me, it came at a good time as I was living a YMCA and was keen to get myself sorted. To complete the compulsory stable staff training the Princes Trust funded me by buying me all the clothes, boots and the hat that I needed. I am forever grateful to them for this. Over a number of years I have worked with several trainers who have taught me a great deal from working with youngsters to track work and racing tactics. I am currently with JW and am looking forward to a successful season with him.

Charly Leprohon

Name: Charly Leprohon
Based: Newmarket
Apprentice to: Clive Brittain

My brother was a jockey in France which encouraged me to be a jockey myself. I started as a jockey in France and had around 15 rides but the trainer I rode for, Thomas Trapenard, gave up training and I decided to move to England to further my career. In January 2007 I started working for Mr Brittan and I am looking forward to the forthcoming season with him.
