This course is aimed specifically at racecourse groundstaff who may, during the course of a race meeting, have to deal with equine emergencies such as loose or injured horses.

By the end of the course a candidate should be able to:

- Understand the risks associated with handling horses, especially those that are excited or stressed

- Have a basic understanding of horse behaviour

- Demonstrate practical skills in horse handling, such as replacing a bridle, putting on a head collar, creating a makeshift halter, holding and leading a horse
