Report from Summer Camp 2010 - by Jasmine Hagger

I arrived at the racing school really exited after hearing the good reports about last year's camp; we got shown to our stables which were absolutely amazing. Once we had moved all our stuff out of our trailers we got shown to our rooms were we had a check to make sure we had all the things we needed. We were then left to unpack our clothes.

The contents of the rooms were really nice as I had a flat screen TV, en-suite (which somehow I managed to break the toilet seat off) and warm beds.

I don't think that I had a favourite part of camp as it was all really good fun. Every time we warmed up on the round canter someone would be bucked off (wouldn't they Donald).

I thoroughly enjoy the mounted games as me and my pony had just finished our last year of competing in the pony club area mounted games team.

William Kennedy and Jack Mitchell were the two jockeys that came in to do the mounted games; I was on Will's team, both jockeys had to ride all the ponies on their team.

Rhodan (my pony) knows what the games are all about, so when Will did the mug race on her and

missed the pole to put the mug on he had to turn round and try again, well Rhodan didn't like that so she wouldn't go near the pole, Will then reached out towards the pole which made Rhodan jump sideways and Will then nearly fell off.

We ended up meeting 4 jockeys; William Kennedy, Jack Mitchell, Seb Saunders, and Tom Queally. We also visited Sir Mark Prescott at his yard, where we watched a horse swimming in a special pool.

We all got to ride up side a jockey. I was really excited when I found out that I was going to ride up sides Tom. He asked if I wanted to race and of course I said yes, the instructors must have guessed what was going on as they stopped talking to me in our special ear pieces. What an experience!

The next day Tom brought in something of his for all 12 of us, I was lucky enough to have size five feet as I now have a pair of his racing boots so all I need to get done is a sole and heal put on them and then I can use them for my races.

Ginger

We had an honorary mouse at camp in the form of Sarah's pony Ginger, which made the parents laugh on the last day as she squeaked down the track.

THE WHOLE of CAMP was AMAZING and I hope to go back to do the Foundation course next year. Thanks to my instructors Jackie and Nicky who taught us all so much in one week, also thanks to everyone else who made camp such a lovely experience.
