Train to Gain
Train To Gain is a major new Government programme aimed at providing free training and qualifications for Adult Learners aged 25 and over. The British Racing School is part of a consortium led by West Suffolk College that delivers Train To Gain nationwide.
We can deliver the NVQ2 and NVQ3 in Racehorse Care for free to learners who do not have a Level 2 Qualification of any description, (A Level 2 qualification is defined as 5 GCSEs A-C, 5 CSEs Grade 1 etc).
We are also able to offer the NVQ2 in Racehorse Care to learners who already have an NVQ2 qualification or equivalent in another field and have been given a limited number of places to offer the NVQ3 to adult learners who already have qualifications at Level 2 or above.
We are currently delivering these qualifications in the key racing centres of Newmarket, Lambourn, Somerset and Middleham/Malton.
Training can be provided on any aspect of the NVQs not covered in your day-to-day routine.
There are no exams to sit and the NVQ qualification will be based on a mix of, witness testimonies, practical demonstrations, question and answer sessions and portfolio-based evidence.

Theresa achieves ahead of the field, as the first to complete NVQ Level 3 through the Train to Gain scheme.
Theresa Newton (36) has been working for Darley - pre training since October 2005 where she moved to following a 2 year spell with David Loder. Before this she worked for Michael Jarvis where she was associated with her favourite horse to date 'Millenium Dragon'.
Theresa has had horses all her life and in 1987 completed the foundation course at the BRS and was then placed with Ben Hanbury, since then she has worked in racing apart from a brief spell of maternity leave.
Theresa says: "I made time being a single parent and working full time to do my NVQ level 3. I felt I may as well be credited for the job I have been doing all my life. I would recommend this qualification to any body working in racing no matter what commitments / circumstances they have, it only takes a little bit of time and effort to gain an industry recognised qualification which may help you in your future career. There is no time limit, so you can work at your own pace"
