Introduction

The original aim of the School was to provide purpose built facilities to promote and encourage young people who had the potential to ride as professional jockeys.

Since then, the School has developed and flourished to its current position as the Centre of Excellence for training in the racing industry, providing a whole range of different courses and training.

As a Centre of Excellence for training in the horseracing world, we aim to provide a range of training of the highest standard to meet the needs of the racing industry, and to meet the needs of our learners.

How We Do It

The school has a board of Trustees with a broad range of expertise who work closely with the Management Team.

It costs about £3 million a year to run the School. The majority of the income, to meet the running costs, comes from Government funding via the Skills Funding Agency and the Education Funding Agency. This is topped up with industry funding based on the number of trainees we place in jobs.

 

The balance is made up through charges for courses other than the Apprenticeship training, and a contribution made by the trading company. However, any major capital expenditure or project has, in the past, had to be met by charitable donations and fundraising. We are eternally grateful for the generosity of our donors over the years and the continuing support that they give us.
