BRS Blog 7th – 11th August

It only seems right to start this week’s blog with a recap of last Friday’s ITV Racing coverage from Glorious Goodwood. During the afternoon programme they aired a short promo of when Hayley Turner came to visit the British Racing School a few weeks ago. This was brilliant for us and we loved what ITV had put together, a massive thank you to ITV Racing. If you happened to miss the coverage you can re-watch via the ITV Hub by following the link: https://www.itv.com/hub/itv-racing/2a4397a0059  The promo can be found at 01:01:02.

It was an overcast start to the week which saw course 312X return from their summer break. A busy week here with plenty going on.

We had our Amateur Rider Development course running this week, which is a week-long residential course designed to help current riders who hold either their Category A Amateur Riders permit or Point to Point Licence. We have eight riders being put through their paces through a variety of training methods. This course provides riders with: tuition in riding, schooling / stalls sessions, video analysis, simulator training including pushing technique and use of the whip, fitness assessment / advice, diet / nutrition advice, fall training and sports psychology in order to provide the opportunity to develop their skills as a rider, and receive some professional tuition. For more information about our Amateur Rider Development course please follow the link: http://www.brs.org.uk/courses/amateur-rider-development-programme/

This week also saw our ever popular Pony Racing Camp where ten children aged 9 to 15 years old came to us for a week of training in order to improve their riding and to qualify to ride in Pony Races this season. Pony Racing Camp is a one week residential course for children and their ponies to experience the fun of pony racing whilst developing themselves as a young jockey. Pony Racing is the grassroots of our sport and we are pleased to continue supporting and offering training. Who knows, we may have seen a future Josephine Gordon or Tom Marquand in the making! Thursday saw our monthly open day for anyone interested in the Level 2 Diploma Apprenticeship Course. This is a fantastic opportunity for potential applicants to see our facilities and speak to our Recruitment Co-Ordinator about the course, application process and any other queries. This month’s open day included: a tour of the British Racing School, a visit to Warren Hill Gallops to watch morning work, a visit to Amy Murphy’s yard to watch her morning training routine before finally returning to the BRS for a chat over refreshments. All in all it was a great day enjoyed by all participants.

While on the subject of open days, it’s Newmarket Open Weekend on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September. We will be open on Saturday 16th September from 9am till 1pm with a number of attractions during the morning including: BBQ, tours, various demonstrations, racing simulator and our trainees riding up the gallops! It’s free entry to visit us on the Saturday, and what could be better, so come along we’ll be delighted to see you!
