Conditional Jockeys Training Series
The 2008/9 Pertemps People Development Conditional Jockeys Training Series is beginning the first of an eight race series at Kelso with a 2 mile 6 furlongs handicap hurdle.
The 2008-2009 eight race conditional jockeys series is proving popular as entries flood in for the 2 mile 6 furlong handicap hurdle at Kelso on Saturday, the first of the eight race series.
To be eligible for the conditional jockeys training series jockeys must not have ridden 20 winners or less at the beginning of the Hunt season. The conditional jockeys training series is the next step on from the Hands and Heels series; race riding coaching and development remains key to the purpose of the programme but at this stage the jockeys are allowed to carry whips.
Coaches from the British Racing School attend all of the meetings to walk the course with the jockeys, as well as offering advice and guidance about riding in the race. In addition coaches review and analyse video footage of the race with the jockeys after the race meeting.
After the final race at Ascot on 27th March 2009, the winner of the Series will be decided by the points accrued from wins and place points in combination with points awarded by the Jockey Coaches for 'riding skills and professionalism'. The winner of the series receives a twelve month sponsorship deal from Pertemps People Development Group, an organisation that helps disadvantaged job seekers across the UK to access the work place or organise self-employment. The winning jockey will benefit from branded race riding clothing and equipment, in addition to a cash prize.
