Michael Murphy who is attached to Ian Williams's yard has taken the initiative in asking for advice from Jockey Coaches from the BRS.

The Jockey Coach Initiative was set up at the BRS in February 2006 to support young professional riders and give them advice. Michael has ridden 16 winners from 220 rides under national hunt rules, however he has fallen foul of the stewards on a couple of occasions and has felt the need to look for help.

Michael came to the BRS in early January and spent a couple of days working with Richard Perham, Steve Smith Eccles and also former champion Jockey Kevin Darley (from the PJA). Richard says,

"we spent a couple of days with Michael on the simulators, videoing him and analysing what he was doing right and wrong. We made some changes and by the feedback given from Racecourse Stewards and Michael himself, the hard work is paying dividends".

Well done to Michael for recognising that the first step to self improvement is recognising the need for self improvement.
