Manuel Fernandes holds on to win the Racing Excellence Shadwell Salisbury Training Series 2017

Manuel Fernandes, apprentice to Sir Mark Prescott was crowned Champion of the Racing Excellence Salisbury Training Series on Thursday 7th September 2017.

 

Manuel has had a great season riding 12 out of his 16 careers wins to date. Manuel won the last two races in the series which pushed him up to 1st place with Pierre Louis Jamin was only 2 points behind. For winning the series Manuel receives £1500 to put towards developing his race riding career. Manuel is enrolled on the Jockey Coaching Programme with Coach Michael Tebbutt. Michael quoted after Manuel winning the series ‘He has been flying recently, it just shows what hard work and pacing can results in’.

 

Throughout the series Jockeys have attended a mandatory course walk with one of the BHA Jockey Coaches and have been awarded place points. 1st – 10 points, 2nd – 6 points, 3rd – 4 points, 4th – 3 points, 5th – 2 points and 6th – 1 point.

 

As part of the Series conditions and rules Jockeys are not allowed to use their sticks but they can pull the stick through as often as necessary.
