This Friday, 29rd September, sees the final of the Haydock Apprentice Series.
With three jockeys sitting very closely going into the last race of the series, Callum Rodriguez apprentice to Michael Dods leads by one point. Sitting in joint second place is Megan Nicholls and Rowan Scott. Megan is both an Apprentice and Conditional Jockey for her father Paul. Rowan Scott is Apprentice to Keith Dalgleish.
Alongside the Racing Excellence Series runs the Jockey Coaching Programme, all Apprentices and Conditionals are assigned to a jockey coach to help them with their race riding careers. All jockeys in the top 10 places on the leader board all have jockey coaches. These coaches would have helped and supported them through the Haydock Apprentice series alongside other rides.
During the series the Jockeys take part in mandatory course walks for which they gain 2 points. They also gain points for Professionalism, presentation, riding and place points. They would receive 5 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place, 2 points for 3rd place and 1 point for 4th place.
