Sunday 8th March, Godstone Point to Point, the location for the British Racing School’s 6th Pony Racing Academy to complete their programme in fine style.

The 148cm and under race saw our 2 BRS Academy riders do battle, Sophie Liddiard aboard Worth The Wait and Martha Stevens riding Time Will Tell. Over 7 furlongs, the undulating track suited Time Will Tell who got off to a flyer, but when the winning post finally came it was experience rider Jamie Perret who took victory with Time will Tell, carrying Mr Charles Wentworth’s colours finishing a creditable 6th, seeing off Worth The Wait by a nose into 7th, under Sophie in the famous Niarchos family colours. A special mention should also go to Jade Asbury, the 3rd rider on the academy who didn’t make the race due to pony lameness but came along to support the others.

“The Pony Racing Academy began 4 years ago and has been going from strength to strength, and the standard these young riders get to with just 12 weeks of training is a credit to themselves and to our team here” said BRS Operations Manager Clare Higgins, “There are plenty of children out there who are brilliant young riders that otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to get involved with pony racing. The benefit to those children who have already been through the Academy has been obvious, with a number of them now intent on pursuing a future career in the racing industry. We are immensely grateful to our individual sponsors who have provided the funding to make this happen as well as the recent support of the Racing Foundation which has allowed the Pony Racing Authority and the Northern Racing College to start their own academies.”

The next Academy starts on the 14th March giving three more young riders the chance to experience the thrill of pony racing.
