Week Commencing 18th December

The final week before Christmas, and it has been one of both firsts and goodbyes here at the BRS.

Monday saw Course 315 graduate – our last course to leave us in 2017. BRS Graduate Josephine Gordon was at their graduation as guest speaker to offer some words of wisdom and congratulations to the trainees who are all set for their careers in racing. Good luck!

Friday saw another goodbye for us at the BRS, as we said goodbye to the Korean Grooms who have spent the last 3 months with us here in Newmarket. During their time with us they helped to break in two yearlings sent by Julia Fielden to great success and have worked successfully in Newmarket for John Ryan. Their exposure to British Racing has been fantastic and we wish them all future success.

On Wednesday, BRS graduate Gavin Ashton was legged up for his first ride aboard the Sir Mark Prescott trained Alternate Route at Lingfield Park. Gavin steered the gelding into second place: an admirable end to your first ride in public. Before coming to the BRS Gavin had never ridden; his improvement, commitment and personality have got him to where he is today and all of us at the BRS are incredibly proud. It just goes to prove you can start from scratch and build yourself a very successful career. Well done Gavin – we look forward to your next mount.

This week at the BRS we have also held a transport exam , an Open Day and a Level 3 Pony Racing course. The Pony Racing trainees had the opportunity to have a tour around Godolphin’s Moulton Paddocks – training grounds for Charlie Appleby. The state of the art facilities available to the team at Moulton Paddocks is extraordinary – it really is an opportunity not to miss should you be given the chance to explore the grounds.

Finally from us at the BRS, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
