Week Commencing 5th February 2018

9th Feb 2018 |

Last Friday evening at a bitterly cold Dunstall Park, home to Wolverhampton Racecourse, our very own Ollie Stammers rode his first ever winner from his first ever ride. Drawn in the carpark in stall 12 of 12, Ollie burst Ravenhoe out of the gate and was leading going into the first bend. When a Mark Johnston horse is out in front they very rarely get caught. Ollie kicked 2 lengths clear off the home bend and won with around half a length to spare. I was lucky enough to be stood beside his jubilant family as Ollie’s enterprising ride brought them such joy – his mother and sister inconsolable. Not many stories come out of Wolverhampton on a Friday night, but this was one to warm the hearts of every racing fan.

In other news, a charity single is being released tomorrow to raise money for Racing Welfare. Featuring Level 3 Apprenticeship student, Gracie O’Reilly, on lead vocals we hope that the song is a great success and raises money for a charity in racing that does so much good work. The single can be downloaded from all major streaming sites.

On Thursday afternoon, Course 317 had their Best Turned Out competition. Glenlyon, Dalavand (Dave) and Twelve Strings strutted their stuff to earn the coveted prize. The final decision was tough but in the end Glenlyon edged the verdict, lead up by Myles and groomed by Skye, Janina, Grace and Lauren. Well done all – we hope the Toblerone and Celebrations were shared evenly…
