Stable Staff Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate all of the hard work and dedication put in by all stable staff daily behind the scenes in racing yards. We are delighted to see that several BRS graduates are riding in Charity races throughout the week. We caught up with a two of them to find about who they’re riding and raising money for. The Betfair Three Feathers Cup launches the 2017 Racing Staff Week on Saturday 1st July.
Brogan Mccarrick, who works for Paul Webber, will be riding in the Betfair Three Feathers Cup over 1 mile 4 furlongs on Saturday 1st July at Lingfield Park. Brogan graduated from the British Racing School on the 16th January 2017 as part of course 307. She is raising money for Racing Welfare. Brogan will be riding Honour A Promise (GB), a nine-year-old bay mare who has been placed twice over hurdles over two miles from a fifteen start career. She is officially rated 91 over hurdles and 88 over fences and is owned by R C Moody.
Also riding in The Betfair Three Feathers Cup at Lingfield Park on Saturday 1st July is Ellie Jones. Ellie works for Jamie Osborne, for whom she said the highlight of her career so far has been breaking in the yearlings and seeing how far they have progressed. She is also hoping to get her license in the future.
Ellie is riding Ceyhan (GB) who is owned by Melbourne 10 Racing. This five-year-old sired by the mighty Rock Of Gibraltar (IRE) has been placed four times from seven runs from one mile to one mile 4 furlongs.

Other BRS graduates riding in The Betfair Three Feathers Cup are Natasha Hill, Oliver Brophy, Elinor Jones and Danielle Smith. The second Charity race being held during the week is The Betfair Clock Tower Cup, at Doncaster Racecourse on Friday 7th July. This will be the feature of the Racing Welfare Charity Raceday which includes a special fundraising lunch.
Poppy Fielding a BRS graduate who left us in December 2015 will be riding in this race. She works for Tom Dascombe and will be riding Chosen Character owned by Mr Nigel Aykroyd. She told us ‘This is the highlight of my racing career so far, I am hoping to eventually get my license to become a professional’. She is raising money for Racing Welfare. Newbury Racecourse is also holding it’s own charity race, The George Frewer Memorial Race, on the 6th of July. BRS graduate Sharna Elford will be riding Another Boy.
Sharna Elford, who works for Ralph Beckett will be riding Another Boy (IRE), a four-year-old chestnut gelding. Her ride Another Boy has won twice from nineteen starts, over 5 and 7 furlongs, and has been placed four times over 5.5 to 6 furlongs in his racing career. Officially rated 73, this son of the notorious grade one winning sire Paco Boy (IRE) is owned by Mrs Philip Snow & Partners.
