Newbury Racecourse hosts the Apprentice Hands and Heels series final this Friday 26th October, flanked by that is the Apprentice Training series final at Doncaster the next day.

The Apprentice Hands and Heels series leader Theodore Ladd is currently in the top of the table by 19 points, Theodore only won one of the series races at Thirsk on 27th July, but has been marked highly for professionalism, presentation, riding points and attending the course walks on every race he has partaken in.  Theodore has recently transitioned as Hughie Morrison’s Apprentice to Scott Dixon’s.

Will Carver, Apprentice to Andrew Balding and Poppy Bridgwater Apprentice to Tony Carroll are only a point apart for runner up.

Following on at Doncaster on the Saturday is the Apprentice Training series final. With only one point between the current leader and three jockeys sitting in 2nd position, it is all to play for!

Current leader Sophie Ralston won the opening race on 7th May at Wolverhampton and also won at Brighton on 21st August. However unfortunately due to her changing to a professional licence in September she will no longer be qualified to ride in the final.

In both finals only place points will be rewarded.

Racing Excellence runs alongside the Jockey Coaching Programme (JCP) and is the industry accreditation for all apprentice and conditional races which run under hands and heels or training race conditions. All Jockeys in the leader boards above are enrolled on the Jockey Coaching Programme and received regular coaching from a panel of former Jockeys. These are on hand to help with fitness, riding technique, nutrition and race reviews. A coach will attend every Racing Excellence race to conduct the pre-race course walk and then will also debrief afterwards.
